Diese Woche hat uns eine royale Postsendung von Prinzessin Schwermut erreicht. Inhalt: Unüblicher Optimismus und ein akustischer Abschiedsbrief als Ankündigung einer betörenden Rückkehr.

Der happige Vorschuss für die Aufnahmen von Marissa Nadlers neuer Platte kam letzten Herbst relativ locker zusammen. Nun dankt sie den Spendern mit einem ersten Vorgeschmack auf das Ergebnis und erzählt, was man sonst noch erwarten darf:

„I ended up recording 15 songs with the amazing Brian McTear, with 11 of those on the proper record, and 4 on a companion EP. There are songs completely acoustic, with just me and my guitar. There are songs that are a tiny bit more flushed out. There are spacey songs that make you want to float away. There are many sad songs of course. There are songs that appear for the first time using absolutely no reverb on my voice (two songs to be exact). I spent over two years writing these songs. All of these songs would not have been possible to be heard in high fidelity without your support. There is a little bit for everyone and I am completely happy with the results.“

Die Loyalität der Fans stimmt die gebürtige Melancholikerin, was die Musikindustrie betrifft, optimistisch wie lange nicht: „Things like Kickstarter, Etsy, and more do it yourself models are outdating the beasts and letting artists just do their things!“.

Beispiele wie der Erfolg des eigenen Finanzierungsmodells und die Pulitzer-Auszeichnung des Autoren Paul Harding für die Novelle „Tinker“ – die nach unzähligen Rückweisungen bei einem kleinen Verlag erschien – lassen Nadler wieder an gerechten Lohn für leidenschaftlichen Einsatz glauben: „Perseverance and paying your dues really pays off. Everyone, keep up what you do and believe in yourself!“.

Wann das neue Album nachgeschickt wird, lässt sie noch offen. Ein erster Song versüsst trotz Abschiedsworten die Wartezeit und lässt auf eine Rückkehr in bekannter Schönheit hoffen.
