Lebt wohl Favez

Ich habe sie geliebt, mit Ihnen gelebt*, sie zu Tode gehört, wiederlieben gelernt und bin an unzählige Konzerte gepilgert. Gestern Samstag freute ich mich dann riesig auf die „Gentlemen, Start Your Engine“-Session im Salzhaus, in der Annahme, dass alte Liebe ja nicht rostet. Die alte Liebe ist aber leider irgendwo in den 90ern stehen geblieben. Die perfektionierte Rockshow – Lichtshow, pulsierende Beats, wie bei einer Drum&Bass-Party – macht Favez unsympathisch. Der Sound ist mittlerweile so überfett arrangiert wie ein fettleibiger Ami und damit passen sie perfekt dahin. Ein Festival für (musikalisch) Stehengebliebene oder im Fall von Favez für „Zurückentwickelte“. Dass Chris Wicky ihre Präsenz im Line-Up verulkte, macht es auch nicht besser. Ironie hilft hier leider auch nicht mehr weiter. Lebt wohl!
*Hauptsächlich mit ihren Cds, abgesehen von einem Gespräch mit Chris Wicky.

Den Text kann ich gar nicht unterstützen. Favez sind für mich die einzige CH-Band von Format …
Was ich witzig finde: So Texte provozieren ja immer schöne Reaktionen. Konnte mich jetzt auch nicht zurückhalten.

Naja ich blieb dieser Nostalgie-Veranstaltung fern aber vielleicht liegt es vielmehr an den geneigten Hörern, die diese Band seit den Anfängen kennen? Und dass die Gruppe musikalisch stehen geblieben ist, zeigt sich wohl nicht erst seit gestern. Favez sind immer noch eine der besten Livebands der Schweiz und Leute, die sie nicht schon 10x live gesehen haben, überzeugen sie hoffentlich immer noch.

dass favez zu den besten live-acts der schweiz zählen, möchte ich und habe ich gar nie bestritten. das posting ist höchst subjektiv und für jene, die eine andere meinung natürlich provokativ, das ist klar. aber darum ging es mir ja auch, meine meinung kund zu tun über meine „beziehung“ zu favez und die enttäuschung, die ich in winti erlebt habe, und nicht irgendein blabla über super live band und so.

Normalerweise lese ich hier nur und schreibe keine Kommentare. Ist für mich selber spannend, dass du da jetzt was angekickt hast bei mir. Ich find das toll, dass bei 78s einfach auch total subjektive Sachen ihren Platz haben. Die lösen ja die geilsten Diskussionen aus. :-)

hey mathias, ich hab favez ja sowohl in winti wie auch in luzern vor und hinter der kulisse erleben dürfen und muss aufs schärfste protestieren gegen die verwendung des wortes „unsympathisch“ im zusammenhang mit favez. kann sein dass du dich weiterentwickelt hast (man munkelt du stehst jetzt mehr auf flink ;-) ) und deshalb von favez nicht mehr so begeistert warst, aber unsympathisch oder überperfekt war’s wirklich nicht. favez haben schon immer wert gelegt auf licht und ton, sie verwechseln eben nicht „indie“ mit „unprofessionell“.

hab mir gedacht, dass dies kommen wird mit indie und professionell. und das ist ja auch gut so. wie gesagt, ich wollte nur meiner enttäuschung ausdruck verleihen. vielleicht liegt es wirklich daran, dass ich andere musik höre als früher. aber wer tut das nicht. lieblingsbands kommen und gehen und das war schon immer so. wie gesagt: es ist meine meinung, die stark emotional „belastet“ und geprägt wurde durch diesen abend und die steht nach wie vor so. dass es andere ansichten gibt, liegt in der natur der sache…und du hast recht: ich bin ein grosser flink-fan ;)… die sind mir sympathischer, auch wenn sie etwas unprofesioneller oder vielleicht indier sind ;)…

Hi there,
I don’t generally surf to see what people think of Favez, but this being sort of a new start for us, what with the keyboards and all, I decided I’d do it this time and yours was the first site I fell upon.
From what I get (my german is pretty weak, sorry), you didn’t like the Salzhaus konzert, I have no problem with that, but I don’t really understand the „ueberprofessional“ criticism:
Our light man (Christobald Plattollucci) is a politics student, he never did lights for bands before he came with us, and he came with us because he’s our best friend
Our sound engineer (Choupet) never did the sound for any band before he came with us, he works as a technical engineer for tv, we took him on because he’s great fun to be with.
Guy Borel chooses the good jump instead of the good chord cause he prefers having fun on stage to trying to be steve vai.
I always improvise what I say (or sing when I’m alone) cause it’s fun to have a personnal contact with the people who come see us, as they are generally cool and nice, even though most of the time it ends up being pretty lame and not as funny as the cool jokes most bands prepare before they go on stage.
Nobody was payed on these three shows we did this weekend cause we’re putting money aside for our next album.
Does this really sound like a Warner Music stylee brand of rock and roll to you?
As for the new musical direction the band is taking, it’s probably the oldest cliché in the indie rock book, but we just want to excited by what we do, and doing the same thing over and over again is boring.
So yeah, sorry if you ddn’t like it, hate to let people down, but we’re very happy with the band right now and we definitely don’t feel like we’re selling our souls or becoming Gotthard…

Hey Chris, and everyone else
Thanks a lot for your comment on that. Let’s say, it doesn’t happen a lot that a musician answers on our postings, so it’s sort of very special.
Nothing against your argumentation, I cannot comment on that, unless that your unprofessional friends are doing a very professional job, as far as I can judge that. I wanna emphasize it again: I didn’t want to say that favez has turned into a bad band, not at all.
It happened to me what probably happens to everyone of you from time to time who listens to a lot of music and goes to a lot of gigs: You loose contact to a band, either because the band developed in a direction you don’t like anymore or you as a listener developed in an other direction, or/and you just have other expectations to the gig/band in the forehand, for whatever reason, if it may be justifiable or not.
The reason why my posting sounded a bit rude to a few eyes and ears lies in the nature of the cause, to repeat myself. It’s a blog, we can express our feelings and opinions, we’re not a comformistic newspaper! And the posting speaks a rude and honest language: it expresses my disappointment. On the other hand, because it gets sometimes a bit emotional here, you shouldnt‘ take everything too serious.

this is in english so everyone can follow.
that’s an awful tricky subject you’ve tackled there boys (any girls here?).
who’s to say being an überprofessional should make a band a bad band or even more: a dislikable one? geez, i’ve seen my fair share of supermegaüberprofessional indie / alternative bands in my days – some of which came across as authentic – some try to overplay being.. well, basically just not very good by being so very professional. we have a few of those in switzerland.
and in a way, it’s very uncool for musicians to answer critique like chris has done – and i guess it takes some balls to go ahead and write into blogs trying to explain oneself like chris has done. fair enough though, i’d say. nice one chris.
it’s a very justifiable discussion. i can see both sides of the story too and i wonder if you’ll like the development of silverchair (which i doubt very much – have you heard their latest single „young modern“? it’s diabolical!)
and for the sake of the discussion: a colleague of mine said he had a f**king great time at the concert in the shüür. said they were excellent (albeit a little loud maybe).
i’m certainly very much looking forward to seeing favez live again. i too loved their first few albums and always thought they were switzerlands only really good live band.

To anybody interested in where Favez is going: there will be a Favez Special on Radio Radius ( http://radio.ethz.ch/ ) featuring an interview with Chris Wicky done at the Salzhaus in Winterthur. Date to be announced.
Oh und @78s: macht was gegen eure beschissenen Captchas. Die Scheissdinger funktionieren nicht. Und ja, ich bin mir 200% sicher dass ich noch keine 90 bin und das richtig abgetippt habe… bei mehr als einem Versuch…

Soso, einzige CH-Band von Format … beste Liveband der Schweiz … sympathisch ? Wer genau bestimmt noch mal wer sympathisch ist ? Der Kommentar war jedenfalls geil geschrieben und die Kleingeister können sich aufregen. Ich war enttäuscht vom neuen Album: Erschiesst mich ! Ach ja: Verkauft ja nicht Eure Seelen und werdet Gotthard … Indie über Alles, heil Indie !!! Ist das alles widerlich.
